The Neues collection – the concrete lovers terrazzo!

Undoubtedly, the strength and robustness of concrete forms is enjoying another zeitgeist. From the Romans, to Le Corbusier et al, through to today, that cool mix of poured grey is again inspiring iconic designs (even Concrete the perfume by Comme De Garcon!).   Similarly, it was the raw beauty of concrete and the Brutalists architectural forms that first inspired Fibonacci Stone’s creative director, Michael Karakolis when creating the highly regarded Neues Collection.

With the recent addition of Wolf, the collection now comprises ten designs.  “Neues has become a hallmark collection for Fibonacci Stone, and its expansion reflects the way the industry’s leading architects, designers and builders have taken our products to the next level – using them in ways I could never have imagined,” says Karakolis.  “Designs from the Neues collection are seen in an immense range of projects, from corporate offices to retail, hospitality and residential.  Across the collection, our designs have been specified by the best of the best, appearing not only on floors, but walls and some incredible bespoke furniture, shop fittings and lighting designs.”

A snapshot of recent projects that feature Neues products includes; Bates Smart’s head office (Khaki Jam); Lululemon’s flagship store (Neues Grey); Marquise babywear store (Neues Grey); Populus Café (Wolf); Marnong Estate (Eventide); and the stunning Casa Chiaroscuro residence (Eventide).

“Interestingly, the Neues collection was designed for lovers of concrete – not lovers of terrazzo,” says Karakolis. “Yet its uptake has shown the versatility of the designs – I mean, even a baby wear store!  There is a great feeling of anticipation with each release – wondering what the designers will do with these products is so exciting, and I feel deeply humbled when Australia’s leading designers use our products.”

The Neues collection: where architecture and nature collide in an ode to the hard-edged beauty of Brutalist forms.

Wolf

Paying homage to the glory of New York’s early skyscraper era, and the millions who headed there in search of streets paved with gold, Wolf is unabashedly powerful – you can almost see the glint of gold in its eye. Intense black and brown shards with just a glimmer of shine are set into a mid-grey base to create a strong, supremely metropolitan product.

Dark Neues

Like its counterpart, Neues Grey, Dark Neues was Inspired by mid C19th Brutalist forms. Dark Neues combines complex, craggy forms set into a deep grey base, according it a robust and powerful appearance.

Eventide

Like the moments between day and night, when the light ebbs and flows, Eventide has the ability to appear either warm or cool. Eventide combines the strength of appearance of a bluestone, with the complexity of a stunning terrazzo.  Almost fossil-like in appearance, mixed amongst the small grey shapes and base are handsome flecks of warm orange, amber and olive green.

Eventide Superfine

Like the moments between day and night, when the light ebbs and flows, Eventide Superfine has the ability to appear either warm or cool. Almost fossil-like in appearance, mixed amongst the small grey shapes and base are handsome flecks of warm orange, amber and olive green.  Eventide Superfine features a more finely-drawn mix of stones than Eventide, yet it still combines the strength of appearance of a bluestone, with the complexity of a stunning terrazzo.

Hardware

Intense, splintered shards form a complex, uncompromising and unconventional terrazzo, inspired by the hard edges and shadows of Brutalist architecture.  Hardware’s gunmetal to mid-strength greys are peppered with occasional amber and olive granite chips, tempering its appearance with a faint warmth.

Hardware Superfine

Hardware Superfine in no way diminishes the bold strength of Hardware, rather it presents as a more distinct and intensified form. Intense, splintered shards form a complex, uncompromising and unconventional terrazzo, inspired by the hard edges and shadows of Brutalist architecture.  Hardware Superfine’s gunmetal to mid-strength greys are peppered with occasional amber and olive granite chips, tempering its appearance with a faint warmth.

Khaki Jam

A homage to natural landscapes of muted greens, browns, rusts and greys, Khaki Jam, in its versatility, has the ability to mimic the act of camouflage. Brilliant for blending into a subtle room scheme, it can also appear with strength as a stand-alone feature.  Set within an earthy bone-hued cement base, the mixture of mostly warm shards and stones are given freshness by cool khakis, pale olive and laurel.

Khaki Jam Superfine

This slightly restrained adaptation of Khaki Jam features a more refined material mix, yet still the colours of Khaki Jam Superfine pay homage to natural landscapes of muted greens, browns, rusts and greys.  Set within an earthy bone-hued cement base, the mixture of mostly warm shards and stones are given freshness by cool khakis, pale olive and laurel.  Khaki Jam Superfine, with its more subtle character, also has the ability to mimic the act of camouflage. It is brilliant for blending into a subtle room scheme, but it can also appear with strength as a stand-alone feature.

Neues Grey

Inspired by mid C19th Brutalist forms, Neues Grey is raw in its aesthetic, with large, increasingly rugged chips of marble and rock set within a neutral grey concrete base.

Its robust appearance still exhibits a very high-level uniformity and consistency en masse.

Neues Grey Superfine

Inspired by mid C19th Brutalist forms, Neues Grey Superfine is a striking terrazzo that at first glance appears to be quite monochromatic.  Closer inspection reveals a finely elegant blend of marble and rock within a warm concrete base that presents a high level of uniformity and consistency.

All products in the Neues Collection are stocked items, with NO LEAD TIME, which means no need for re-selection, no project delays and no disappointed clients.
